About Us

The Smart Workforce Solutions Story

An Australian and a South African walk into a bar – that’s no joke.

Founders Daimien Patterson and Sharne Gous actually did meet in a bar on a rooftop, in Cape Town, unaware of the important task that lay ahead. With a combined passion for business, entrepreneurship and South Africa, Smart Workforce Solutions (SWS) was born.

Daimien, being a former Australian military man from Queensland, gone property investment expert, to successful business owner and entrepreneur was on holiday in Cape Town in early 2022 and had seen first-hand some of the not so subtle issues in South Africa.

Sharne, being a South African business owner from Cape Town, coming from a legal background to ardent business woman and entrepreneur, gave Daimien clarity on exactly what he had been witnessing and what this reality derived from.

Are you an Australian Business Owner?

Why Hire South African Virtual Staff?

Virtual staff, also commonly referred to as Virtual Assistants (VA’s), are self-employed professionals who work remotely from anywhere in the world.

By hiring qualified and experienced virtual staff, Australian businesses can cut their wages in half. First reason for this, is that the Australian Dollar (AUD) is currently almost 12 South African Rand. The second reason, is that nearly 35% of South Africans are unemployed.

This means that an estimate of 20.8 million people in South Africa are unemployed and/or unable to find work, of which a percentage of these individuals are qualified, educated and experienced professionals in their selective fields. This is due to certain sociology-economic factors, including, but not limited to, inequality.

The primary example of such factors is B-BBEE, which has been implemented by law for the passed 20 years in South Africa. B-BBEE, focuses on black economic empowerment. In other words, people are chosen for available employment, not based on their skill set or qualifications but based on their race.

Whilst the idea of B-BBEE strives to create diversity in the workplace, it has seen many highly educated, English speaking, proactive and talented people, unable to find employment.

As an Australian business owner, we know that your
answer to at least half of these questions will be YES

Are your wages the biggest line item in your profits & losses?

Are you finding it hard to attract quality applicants?

Is your time utterly restricted which makes it impossible to recruit top performers?

Are you worried that you can’t afford top performing staff?
